HIKES IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY
Besides the gastronomy, the culture, the tradition, the typical cities and the paradisiacal beaches, the Basque Country also has many excursions that are worth a visit.
The coastal path of Jaizkibel
The first hike that we propose to you lasts approximately 4h50.
A pleasant13.74km walk along the coast from Hondarribia, on the northern side of Mount Jaizkibel, to the Fig Tree lighthouse.
You can return through the forest, the fort and the chapel of Guadalupe.
The circuit of Aïnhoa
This hike starts from Aïnhoa (one of the most beautiful villages in France) and offers you a breathtaking view of the village and the summit of the Rhune.
It is 3h15 of walking for 7.86km. Don’t forget to stop and visit the chapel, as well as the discoidal Basque tombs.
The ridges of Iparla
Discover this incredible 7.64km hike that allows you to easily access the peaks of Iparla without having to go over the different peaks. 3h35 walk from Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, through the Larrarté pass.
The coastline of Biarritz
A walk not to be missed in the region since this hike is on the coast and is located between Biarritz and Anglet, from where the departure is made. Despite the 9.59km for about 3h05 of walking, you can discover the most famous sites of both cities during a very pleasant walk.
The redoubts of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle
This hike is for history buffs. During the 3-hour walk, in addition to enjoying beautiful landscapes and seeing hundred-year-old oaks, you will discover the Napoleonic redoubts dating from 1814. A walk of 8.42km that will take you back in time. Departure from Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle.
The Askar and Argandoita peaks
It is from Urdazubi that the 3h30 hike begins. Start the walk by visiting the village of Urdax. Continue by reaching the two summits, Askar and Argandoita, from where the view is impressive. You can even see the ocean. This 8.64km hike offers you the incredible opportunity to meet a thousand-year-old oak tree.
The Xorroxin cascade
From Baztan, go to discover this 10.88km hike. There are many small streams and a waterfall to refresh you. Continue your way and meet the famous Inarbegi dolmen. During the 4h10 walk, you will discover typical Navarrese farms.
5 hours of hiking starting from Sare, where you can, on occasion, visit the caves and the Basque cake museum. This 12.96km walk offers superb views of the surrounding peaks and the ocean.
The path also allows you to discover an archaeological site.
The coastal path of Pasaia
Start this hike with a visit to the port of Pasaia with its regattas of Traînières. This 4h20 walk is special because the return is not at the starting point.
After the 11.96km walk to San Sebastian, you can enjoy the old town or relax at the beach.
The hills of Ibarron
This last proposed hike lasts 3h45. You leave from Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle where you can discover the village before going to the heights of Ibarron. Enjoy the incredible view of the Nivelle valley. 10.41km of pleasant and easy walking.
